(In a similar way you may be offering theory test training). Why we created group plans for ADI/PDIs and their students
Many learners and new drivers struggle with feeling confident in their driving ability, either to pass their driving test or in those early days of driving alone once they have passed. As a driving instructor, this is probably familiar to you too?
That’s why we started Confident Drivers. We help drivers who lack the confidence to explore why they feel the way they do about driving and start to become more confident behind the wheel using coaching tools, stress management techniques, video guides and audio. As a result, drivers are able to create their own confidence-building action plans so they will be able to become safer, calmer drivers and enjoy the freedom of driving without the fear.
We know how awful it feels when your student’s progress becomes stuck because of their driving nerves. You feel powerless and frustrated because you know they can drive. You want so badly to help your students overcome their battle with their minds because you know then you’d be able to help them achieve their driving dreams and give them the opportunities that having a driving license offers.
Kev wasn’t always good at knowing what to do when students became anxious or panicky during driving lessons. In the early days, he prepared by having tissues in the car and learning an easy breathing exercise to suggest to students when needed. He soon went on to do the BTEC4 Coaching for Driver Development to learn more about coaching and taking a client-centred approach. Like many other ADIs, he knew he wanted to be able to offer a more effective way of supporting his students that didn’t involve him being more like a therapist than a driving instructor! So he asked his wife Tracey, who specialises in Mindfulness and Stress Management, for some simple tools he could share with his students to help. And so the idea for Confident Drivers came into existence.
